Classic Irish Chain Quilt

The traditional Irish Chain Quilt presents a wonderful amount of negative space in which to quilt. However, that negative space isn’t necessarily a perfect tidy square. ProStitcher.com has some fantastic blocks, which can be used as square quilting designs, but are optimized for the unique shape of an Irish Chain Pattern.

Blocks

We went crazy and quilted MANY of the Irish Chain Blocks into one single quilt. Below is the digital mock up created using Pro-Stitcher Designer software’s Backdrop feature. Once the quilt “backdrop” is in place, it is easy to see how the designs will look all together.

The block designs featured here are all included in the June 2022: Traveler.

If you aren’t already a PS Member, you are missing out. This whole collection can be yours for 1 PS Membership Download.

Of course, these are not all the Irish Chain designs included in Traveler. We’ve included a couple designs for a Double Irish Chain, as well.

Mix and match these designs on your next Irish Chain, use all of them at once, or simply showcase your favorites.

Gifting

This Irish Chain, below, is made with an assortment of Kaffe Fassett fabric scraps + a thrift store 100% cotton bed sheet in the negative space. It will be gifted to a dear friend.

Quilt Back

Since you are here, want to see the quilt back? Backing a quilted project with a solid color always shows off the quilting design. There’s just so much to love on this little quilt, front and back.

We cannot wait to see your projects. Use the hashtag #prostitcher when sharing.
