Our First Quilt Along!

The Quilt

ProStitcher.com is trying something new! Join us as we Quilt Along with the PS Quilt Pattern, Chain Link, which is available to Members FREE for the month of August! Download it here.

As with all the “interlocking” block patterns, this one is deceptively easy. Nancy Page offered this block in a newspaper advertisement in the 1930s for “three cents and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.” Ah, for the good old days. We did not have the quilt pattern, but chose to keep it simple. Rotary cutting 2″-wide strips makes this a quick project in both cutting and assembly. With the addition of prairie points and pretty hand quilting, you are done!

Timeline

We will be building this quilt, guided by this schedule:

*Our team will only be making 9 blocks to create a baby quilt and will be omitting the classic Prairie Point Triangles around the perimeter.

Let’s Pick Fabrics!

ProStitcher recently hosted a poll to see what color palette YOU’d prefer when creating this project. You can find our polls and weigh-in on our social media: Facebook and Instagram.

While all four color options look great, we went a different route.

Chain Link is perfect to use fat quarters bundles, cut into strips or to trim a 2-1/2″ strip collection (Jelly Roll) to suit the pattern requirements.

Our Quilt Along sample maker opted to use as much bright binding from her scrap bin as possible. That’s right, this design is perfect to use extra binding pieces for a scrappy look. Your personal binding-scraps collection may determine the color palette you choose.

As per the directions, solid muslin is recommended for the white/negative space areas. For this QAL, we opted to not shop for fabric, but rather use assorted fat quarters that have the same color value (Light Grey.)

Although our quilt will be 3 blocks x 3 blocks, we did end up using more binding pieces than pictured above. The more, the scrappier!
