Fabric Bin 3-Piece Set PROJECT | Quiltable | Cathie Zimmerman

Supplies

*Keep in mind, with all digital quilting designs, these bin sizes and fabric requirements may vary if you opt to scale the design in your robotic quilting software.

For this project, we are showcasing the 11″ x 11″ x 11″ cube bin and it requires the following:

  • Fabric Bin digital quilting file
  • 1-1/4 yard x 18” fabric (front)
  • 1-1/3 yard x 24” fabric (backing)
  • 46″ x 18” batting or foam stabilizer
  • 1-1/4 yard fabric (lining) * optional
  • Binding

Construction

Load your fabric normally on your longarm quilting frame.

Set up your digital file to quilt your fabric. Keep in mind, the files may look interesting, but make a wonderful finished bin.

The longarm robotic system will stitch the perimeter first.

Remove the quilted piece. Cut around the quilted design near the 1/4″ stitched outline.

Use this quilted shape as a guide to cut lining fabric.

Per the bin directions, sew the bottom and bottom-corner seams on the outer bin and bin lining pieces.

Tip: Use binder clips or wonder clips when holding pieces together as the project is thick.
